Last night, I got together with a group of ladies for a Wine Tasting class. It was so educational and informative. I admit that I am not a wine drinker and, in fact, really didn’t care for it at all. But I thought that if I learned about it, I would develop an appreciation for the subtle and not so subtle differences between white, red, burgundy, champaign, sparkling, zinfandel, cabernet… well, the list just goes on and on, doesn’t it. We all met at The Wine Spectrum in downtown Santa Rose. Our group leader’s husband, Roland, was our instructor and man, does that man love wine! He tried to keep it simple, but I admit to getting a little dizzy before we ever took a sip! He did an EXCELLENT job of explaining the “wine-ing” process and how different wines get their distinctive flavors. The best part was learning that there really is a wine out there for everyone. You just have to keep looking. I’m still looking, but I found out that I’m partial to Chardonnay. And the reason I do NOT like Sauvignon Blanc is because of it’s strong citrus-like flavors and quality. And that the fantastic, heavily garlicked pasta dinner is most likely why I enjoyed the Chianti that one time.

After wine, we staggered next door to Sushi To Dai For. Hmmmm – you all know I love me some sushi! No sake or Sapporo for me though, I was a bit tipsy from all the wine and needed to drive home later! Dinner lasted for hours, so no worries, I was totally sobered up by the time I hit the road! We all shared some tempura appetizers. YUMMY!! The menu is off the charts! They have a whole page of vegetarian sushi, almost impossible to find in most sushi restaurants. So many items to choose from, my head was swimming (then again, the wine tasting first probably didn’t help!) I finally settled on a San Francisco roll. It had… uh… stuff in it. Definitely some raw fish, probably tuna – I don’t really remember beyond the avocado, rice and seaweed wrap! Sorry, I shouldn’t drink if I’m going to review! Next time, it’s game night. The menu: pizza and beer!

I’m apologizing for the quality of the photos. It was some really great ambient lighting – perfect for setting “the mood” and perfectly sucky for picture taking!
