Poor Sean. An innocent afternoon of swimming in the grandparents’ pool turned into a trip to Urgent Care and a full round of steroids. Somehow, an hour in the pool triggered an asthma attack, the likes of which he hasn’t had in nearly 18 months. His doctor thinks that the pool chemicals have something to do with it, though exactly what we aren’t sure. And here I was beginning to think he was outgrowing the worst of it. Foolish foolish me!
Not to be out-done, Skye broke out in a head to toe rash the following day. Culprit… that damn pool!! Just what the hell did my stepdad put in it?!! Geez Lou-ise!
Good news is, they both went back to their respective schools yesterday. AND I DIDN’T GET A PHONE CALL TO COME GET THEM HALFWAY THROUGH THE DAY!! That’s monumental. Especially for Sean, since the ‘roids were making him more hyper and fidgety than usual. They’re still on meds. Skye’s rash has completely cleared up but she’s still complaining about itching a bit. The Benedryl has worked miraculously and I’m definitely adding them to my Christmas Card list!!
Unfortunately, Sean is still a little wheezy. Just a touch. But enough so that I’ve had to stop his Tae Kwon Do lessons, which totally sucks. When a rousing game of Sonic on the GameCube has me running for his inhaler, well, flying side kicks just don’t seem like such a good idea.
He and I are going to Disneyland on Tuesday (we have free tickets that need to be used before they expire and it’s his turn.) This will require bringing: his inhaler, nebulizer, epi pen and a print out listing all the Disney restaraunts that offer gluten and dairy free items off-menu (like the Pizza Port in Tomorrowland. You just have to ask, they have gluten free pizza AND pasta!!) Disneyland is the only amusement park I know of that caters to kids with special needs on this level. And they get huge props from me!!
Seriously, a big KUDOS to Disneyland!!

I’m so sorry you guys had to go through all of this! I had to add that I love how the Walt Disney parks deal with gluten free diets! They are always wonderful when we go and I love how a cook will come out and do something specifically for our daughter.
